Excess submental fat can lower one’s self-image, and make one feel self-conscious when looking in the mirror or posing in photographs. Submental liposuction is a procedure to help remove the excess fatty tissue beneath the chin, restoring a more elegant, natural neck contour. Submental liposuction can be performed in conjunction with a neck lift, or on its own. During the procedure, fat is vacuumed out of the body through a slender tube known as a cannula. In some cases, laser heat may also be applied to help stimulate collagen regrowth and tighten the surrounding skin. Options for non-surgical reduction of double chin include Kybella.
“Dr. Lee has truly been the most professional and hard-working person I have met. Dr. Lee made sure she was available and heavily involved for all of my appointments.”
The neck liposuction procedure is an outpatient procedure. This can be done either under local or general anesthesia. Small incisions are made underneath the chin to access the fat.
Downtime for submental liposuction is about one week. You may experience some slight bruising, tenderness, and tightness, but these symptoms will abate within around 7-10 days.
You will wear a compression garment to contour the neck. Dr. Lee will customize a personalized recovery plan for you.
