What is chin reduction?

Chin reduction produces a contoured, well-defined jawline by enhancing bone structure and removing excess fatty tissue. Dr. Lee prefers the following for reducing the size of the chin and highlight the jawline:

  • Kybella, which uses a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid to break down and absorb fat cells
  • Botox to weaken the masseter muscles and minimize a “square”-appearing jawline
  • Submental Liposuction
  • Submental Liposuction with Platysmaplasty
  • Neck Lift

What are the benefits of chin reduction?

  • Enhanced facial balance
  • Improved jawline definition
  • Reduced prominence of a protruding chin
  • Enhanced overall facial harmony
  • Increased self-confidence
  • An elegant profile

Who is a candidate for chin reduction?

  • Individuals with a prominent or protruding chin
  • Those seeking improved facial balance
  • People with jawline asymmetry
  • Candidates desiring a more proportionate face
  • Individuals with a weak chin structure
  • Non-smokers in generally good health

TREATMENTS FOR LOOSE SKIN & FAT (“Double Chin” Reduction):

As many as 68% of people in the United States complain of the common “double chin”. There are a variety of causes for this common concern, ranging from genetics to weight gain to a recessed bone structure. PERK offers multiple treatments to effectively get rid of loose skin or fat beneath the chin that may be right for you, depending on your unique anatomy:

  • Kybella is a noninvasive injection made of deoxycholic acid. It destroys the fat cells under the chin and leaves the jawline more contoured. The procedure is fast and requires minimal down time. Kybella chin reduction is best for people with small amounts of fat beneath the chin just above the neck muscles.
  • Submental Liposuction is often done under either local or general anesthesia. A tiny incision is made along the jawline and the extra fat is liposuctioned out. This is great for patients between ages 20 and 50 whose skin elasticity is good, so that it can shrink to the newly contoured jawline. This procedure involves a recovery period of 1-2 weeks, some moderate pain or soreness, and bruising and swelling that typically dissipates within 4 days. The result is a more defined and youthful jawline free of excess skin and fat.
  • Submental Liposuction with Platysmaplasty or Neck Lift: If you have loose muscles under the chin or extra skin that will be unlikely to shrink back, a platysmaplasty or neck lift might best suit your needs. This procedure lifts the neck by tightening the platysma muscles that run along the front of the neck to reveal a vastly improved sharpness and contour of the jawline. The procedure is often performed in combination with liposuction. A small incision is placed underneath the chin where the loose muscles are tightened and any excess skin or fat is carefully removed.
