Breast revision surgery is extremely common. It is important to remember that breast implants are not lifelong devices, and most women will have a revision at some point in her life.
Previously Augmented Breasts

What are some common reasons for pursuing breast revision surgery?
One of the most common reasons for a breast revision is a shift in personal taste. According to the FDA, 37% of revisions are for size change alone. Another common reason to undergo breast revision surgery is due to implant complications. For example, implants should be revised if they rupture, develop capsular contracture, or migrate in position and distort the breast shape.

Revision breast surgery is highly individual and the techniques used to restore the breast shape depend on your specific concerns. Common revision procedures include:
Breast implant removal
During this procedure, the implants placed during your primary augmentation are removed, along with any breast capsule. Scar tissue may be removed as well to prevent future discomfort. After removal of the breast implants, women may elect to replace the volume with fat, replace the volume with another implant, or do nothing. Implant removal can often leave the breasts droopy, so it is also common for women to choose a breast lift following the procedure in order to restore the position of the breasts, rather than volume.
Breast implant revision
During breast implant revision surgery, the original implants are replaced with new ones. Depending on the quality of the surrounding tissue, the new implants may be the same size, smaller or larger. The texture and material of the implants may also be changed during implant revision. This procedure is often performed to remedy capsular contracture, or scar tissue that hardens around the breast implant, which may cause discomfort or distort the implant shape.
Breast animation deformity correction
An animation deformity is a common phenomenon that occurs when the implant is placed underneath the pectoralis muscle. With movement or exercise, the pectoralis muscle moves the breast implants as well. Dr. Lee can correct this condition through a variety of surgical techniques.
