What are different types of scars?

Keloid scars

Keloid scars are raised nodules that appear due to an injury. Keloids may be itchy and painful. They are common in clients with darker skin and common in areas like the ear, neck, chest, and shoulders.

Hypertrophic scars

Hypertrophic scars are made of thick scar tissue that appears at the site of a wound. Hypertrophic scars may be red, raised, uncomfortable, or widened.

What does scar treatment entail?

Scar treatment varies by what the scar looks like and how long you have had the scar. If a scar was repaired with poor technique, the scar can often be revised surgically.

Scar rehabilitation includes treatment with microneedling, steroid injections, nanofat, laser resurfacing, photorejuvenation, injectable and topical medications. Scars will never disappear. However, the appearance can be greatly improved.

What is the recovery process like for scar treatment?

Most scar treatments can be performed in the office and done under local anesthesia. After treatment, it’s normal for the scar to worsen in appearance before it improves.
